Carolina Energy Systems is a professional generator installer serving Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. To help the company’s growth objectives we are looking for a team-oriented Generator Technician - Apprentice who enjoys working on new challenges every day.
We are seeking to hire a full time Generator Technician - Apprentice to join our team who is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of generator systems. This role involves ensuring that generators are running efficiently and effectively under the supervision of a senior technician.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Inspection: With supervision
Perform routine and scheduled maintenance on generator units, including changing oil, replacing filters, replacing spark plugs, inspecting belts and hoses, and cleaning parts.
Check and replace parts, fluids, and filters to ensure the generator runs smoothly and efficiently.
Conduct regular safety inspections to ensure generators comply with safety and regulatory standards.
Troubleshooting and Repairs: With supervision
Diagnose common issues in generator systems, including electrical, mechanical, or fuel-related problems.
Repair or replace faulty components, such as batteries, heaters, starters, and other common failure components.
Use diagnostic tools to analyze generator performance and identify issues.
Customer Support:
Provide excellent customer service by explaining generator issues, solutions, and the importance of regular maintenance.
Offer recommendations to customers on system improvements or upgrades.
Testing and Calibration:
Test generators after service or repair to ensure they operate properly.
Assist senior techs in performing load bank tests and other repairs.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate service records for installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
Provide detailed reports on completed work, including parts used, time spent, and any recommendations for future maintenance or upgrades.
Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and equipment used in generator repair and servicing.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with generators and electrical systems.
Ensure that work is compliant with local electrical codes, industry regulations, and manufacturer specifications.
Keep up to date with safety regulations and best practices related to generator operation and maintenance
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent (technical training or certifications in electrical, mechanical, or related fields preferred).
Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge.
Basic troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and materials.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (for on-site service calls).
Working Conditions:
Ability to work in various outdoor and indoor environments, often in challenging conditions.
Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required for emergency service calls.
Travel to client locations is required, often within a designated service area.
Compensation and Benefits:
Base Hourly Rate: $18.00 - 25.00 per hr. depending on experience.
Overtime Rate: 1.5 times the base rate for anytime over 40 hours.
Paid time off and holiday pay.
Eligible for medical insurance after a 90 day probationary period.
Retirement plan options after a 90 day probationary period.
Employees will be provided with company uniforms.
Employees will be assigned a service vehicle after they meet the requirements / training to begin performing work on their own.
Carolina Energy Systems has 2 locations. One is located in Penrose, North Carolina and the other in Greenville, South Carolina. This job is located at the Penrose office although there will be travel to both locations.
