Assistant Scientist - Microbiology (First Shift)

Location: Zebulon, NC
Schedule: Monday-Friday | First Shift
Pay Rate: $25.50/hour (W2)
Employment Type: Contract - Must work on Alphanumeric W2 (No third-party candidates)

Alphanumeric is hiring an Assistant Scientist to support our Microbiology Quality Control team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career science professional looking to grow within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environment.

Position Overview

The Assistant Scientist performs routine, entry-level microbiological and analytical testing to ensure all products meet GMP and company quality standards. This role supports environmental monitoring, water testing, and analytical testing of raw materials and finished products while ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with cGMP standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform water collection and microbiological testing.
• Conduct environmental monitoring, including:
  • Air sampling.
  • Equipment swabbing.
  • Non-viable particulate sampling.
• Enter and manage data in the site LIMS (LIFT) system.
• Perform routine analytical and microbiological testing of:
  • Raw materials.
  • Packaging materials.
  • Finished products.
  • Environmental samples.
• Utilize laboratory instrumentation such as:
  • HPLC
  • Vitek
  • GC
  • UV
  • Microscope
  • Gram Stainer
  • Robotics systems
• Generate accurate, compliant data in accordance with cGMP standards.
• Interpret and validate test results.
• Notify supervisor of deviations or critical findings.
• Review and document laboratory data, SOPs, methods, and specifications.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Assist in training team members on laboratory methods and systems.
• Participate in cross-functional projects and quality initiatives.
• Understand data integration and calculation of results.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related Science discipline.
• 1+ year of experience in a pharmaceutical or GMP-regulated environment preferred.
• Understanding of cGMP documentation and compliance standards.
• Experience with laboratory instrumentation and LIMS systems preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and data integrity.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Employment Details:

• $25.50 per hour.
• Must be able to work directly on Alphanumeric W2.
