Field Service Mechanic – Asphalt Equipment (Contracting Division)
We are seeking an experienced Field Service Mechanic with a strong background in asphalt equipment to join our Contracting Division. This role is primarily field-based, supporting day-to-day and emergency repairs, as well as preventative maintenance on a wide range of asphalt-related heavy equipment. Occasional work in a shop environment may be required. The ideal candidate will be self-directed, safety-conscious, and mechanically skilled in servicing paving and compaction machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on asphalt equipment such as pavers, rollers, milling machines, and tack distributors.
- Address issues identified in operator inspection reports and ensure timely resolution to minimize downtime.
- Follow manufacturer and company guidelines for servicing and inspections.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems specific to asphalt machinery.
- Overhaul gas and diesel engines and major components using up-to-date technical resources.
- Fabricate or repair hydraulic systems, guards, and attachments based on schematics or blueprints.
- Test and verify equipment performance post-repair to ensure operational readiness.
- Maintain accurate records of labor, parts, and services in the Computerized Maintenance Management Information System (CMMIS).
Position Requirements
- Proven experience servicing asphalt equipment in a field or heavy equipment mechanic role.
- Strong diagnostic skills for gas/diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with pavers, rollers, and other asphalt-specific machinery.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience using CMMIS or similar systems for tracking maintenance.
- Valid NC driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not mandatory.
Work Schedule
- Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- Overtime may be required, including nights and weekends.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift heavy tools and parts.
- Frequent standing, bending, and kneeling.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
