Administrative Assistant, Public Safety Technologies, Basic Law Enforcement Training

The Administrative Assistant for Public Safety Technologies will provide support to the Program Coordinator with a concentration on Basic Law Enforcement Training. The duties and responsibilities listed below will outline the role of the Staff Assistant. Minimum Qualifications QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Two years of full-time clerical experience in an office environment.
  • Demonstrated use of MS Office computer software.
  • Ability to make moderately complex computations rapidly and accurately.
  • Understand and be committed to the unique nature and role of the College.
  • Must be willing to work hours outside of traditional business hours as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience in an educational institution.
  • Experience working with NC Criminal Justice and Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards rules and regulations.
  • Associate degree in office systems technology or a related field. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC .
Essential Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work with community partners and stakeholders to meet their needs and the needs of the BLET program.
  • Model an understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy and mission.
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Program Coordinator for BLET that includes, memoranda, reports, documents, forms, tabulations, and other materials.
  • Process all correspondence such as approval letters, miscellaneous letters, and memoranda.
  • Answer requests and inquiries for information relating to public safety programs.
  • Aid public safety faculty and staff with computer operations consisting of word processing and e-mail.
  • Process travel authorizations, requisitions, and reimbursements for staff.
  • Check records and papers for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established standards and procedures and course audits.
  • Assist staff with special assignments and projects.
  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Program Coordinator.

  • Read written communications, as well as analyze and interpret both verbal and written communications.
  • Respond coherently both verbally and in writing to students, co-workers and individuals having contact with the College.
  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
Mathematical Skills :
  • Perform basic mathematical operations necessary for work with preparation of instructor contracts and required reports.

Reasoning Ability :
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Other Skills end Abilities:
  • Recognition of the unique nature and role of Economic & Workforce Development.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform assigned clerical/secretarial tasks readily, adhere to prescribed routines, and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards and North Carolina Sheriff’s Training Standards

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Must see with sufficient close, distance and peripheral vision.
