Job Title: QA Database Tester (Teradata Experience Required)

Job Description

The Database Tester will support Business Event QA by performing end-to-end validation of Business Event records within a Teradata environment. This role ensures business, technical, and reporting requirements are met throughout the SDLC. Responsibilities include preparing and executing test scripts, validating data accuracy across systems, identifying defects prior to production release, and supporting production certification activities to ensure ongoing platform stability.

This position requires strong SQL expertise, hands-on data validation experience, and the ability to collaborate with both

onshore and oƯshore teams in a fast-paced, enterprise environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform backend data validation and end-to-end testing of Business Event records in Teradata and other relational database environments.
• Write and execute complex SQL queries (including joins) to validate data quality, transformations, and business logic.
• Review DDL, primary keys, and relational structures to ensure accurate data mapping and integrity.
• Prepare, execute, and maintain test scripts based on defined test strategies and plans.
• Coordinate with onshore QA teams responsible for the majority of query writing and test execution.
• Manage and track defects, ensuring clear documentation and timely resolution.
• Support production certification testing to validate system health and identify post-production issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Agile or Waterfall methodologies.
• Create clear test documentation, test evidence, and reporting materials using Excel and PowerPoint

Essential Skills

• 3 - 4 years of backend testing and data validation experience in enterprise environments.
• Strong Teradata experience preferred; open to candidates with strong relational database testing backgrounds.
• Advanced SQL skills, including writing complex queries with multiple joins.
• Solid understanding of RDBMS concepts, DDL, primary keys, and relational data modeling.
• Experience working within Agile and/or Waterfall SDLC frameworks.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify data issues quickly.
• Experience coordinating with onshore teams and managing handoffs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (advanced functions) and PowerPoint.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to document defects clearly.
• Experience with defect management tools (ALM, Octane, or similar).
• Experience with JIRA or other Agile project management tools.
• Understanding of UAT, unit testing, regression testing, and production certification processes.
• Familiarity with QA automation tools or quality control frameworks.
• Knowledge of Hadoop data models and end-to-end testing in distributed data environments.
• Financial services experience is a plus.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 25% Onshore database testing & SQL validation (Teradata still needed)
• 50% Coordination with oƯshore QA teams
• 25% Defect management and reporting (ALM but moving to Octane)

Location: Charlotte, NC – 3 days in oƯice – 2 days remote

• 12 – 36-month contract to potential hire based on performance

This is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, NC.

The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $48.00/hr.

This is a hybrid position in Charlotte,NC.
