Responsibilities
- Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic testing; identify worn or damaged parts.
- Perform preventive maintenance, including component upgrades, corrosion control, and seasonal procedures.
- Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling/disassembling, and replacing major assemblies and components (powertrain, electrical systems, A/C, fuel, emissions, brakes, steering, hydraulics, etc.).
- Complete machine shop operations and make necessary adjustments such as alignments, bearing load checks, gear tooth contact adjustments, valve mechanism adjustments, and control linkage corrections.
- Conduct test drives to verify repairs and adjust systems for optimal performance.
- Comply with federal and state vehicle regulations by performing required engine, safety, and emissions testing.
- Maintain vehicle appearance through cleaning, washing, and minor painting.
- Document all repairs and services performed to maintain accurate vehicle records.
- Maintain and troubleshoot shop equipment; perform preventive maintenance and request repairs as needed.
- Control costs by utilizing warranties and evaluating parts/service options.
- Maintain adequate supplies by managing inventory, placing orders, and verifying deliveries.
- Stay current by participating in training and reviewing updated technical/regulatory materials.
- Support the maintenance department by taking initiative, embracing new tasks, and contributing to continuous improvement.
Skills & Qualifications
- Must have own tools
- CDL required or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicle systems
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
