In NC, we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains. Our newer Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) facility in Clayton, NC sits on 825,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art equipment, and houses the Fermentation, Recovery and Purification in the production of ingredients for Novo Nordisk's innovative oral products. The Position
Serve as a core member of the Environmental, Health & Safety team. Provide direct support as liaison to multiple operations areas, provide guidance & coaching to other EHS team members & site operations leadership, provide subject matter expertise on several EHS aspects in accordance with education & experience, & the skill & ability to serve as US CVP Partner with establishment & oversight of all health & safety programs.

Reports to Manager / Senior Manager.
Essential Functions
+ Communicate effectively to all levels of the organization, both orally & written
+ Support advancement of OSHA process safety management program & US EPA risk management plan (RMP) through improvement of written programs & training modules
+ Support EHS functions such as emergency response & first aid teams
+ Serve as an SME on various levels of safety audits & incident investigations
+ Support areas with execution of OSHA process safety management (PSM) regulations
+ Provide guidance on chemical hazards, including PPE needs & materials compatibility
+ Execute & coach others on execution of risk assessment methodologies (Workplace Risk Assessment, What-if, HAZOP, FMEA), as well as layer of protection analysis (LOPA)
+ Develop & share knowledge & experience with various life safety functions & systems (work permitting, confined space, LOTO, fall protection, safety interlocks systems, PPE, etc.)
+ Support obtaining & maintaining ISO 45001 certification consistent with the overall organization
+ Prepare in-depth analysis for leadership in relation to goals & KPIs, to include trending of EHS & PSM site/department goals to drive optimal performance and continuous improvement
+ Lead and/or consult on complex cross-functional projects/ initiatives, both short & long-term, with stakeholders
+ Support Industrial Hygiene program to ensure compliance of applicable exposure limits within local regulatory requirements and Novo Nordisk standards
+ Support process hazard analysis (PHA) or Workplace Risk Assessments to identify EHS points of concern, establish mechanisms of control, and ensure actions are both incorporated into design and meet intent during startup
+ Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties
+ Other accountabilities, as assigned
Physical Requirements
Moves equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions. Routinely operates & inspects manufacturing equipment using hands. Strap & unstrap pallets using hands. Must be able to be on your feet for up to a 12-hour shift. May require corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role. May require color vision based on role. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. May be required to work at elevated heights. Occasionally works around odorous &/or hazardous materials. May be required to wear latex gloves. May perform critical job functions in extremely cold work environments depending on site. May position oneself within confined spaces for inspection if required of the role. Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection. May be required to secure a motorized vehicle license & operate a motorized vehicle based on the role.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or relevant field of study from an accredited university plus minimum five (5) years of direct safety experience within complex manufacturing required, preferably in chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, required
+ In lieu of Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of experience, may consider an Associate Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science or relevant field of study from an accredited university with seven (7) years of direct safety experience within a complex manufacturing environment required, preferably in a chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
+ In lieu of Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of experience, may consider High School Diploma or equivalent with nine (9) years of direct safety experience within complex manufacturing required, preferably in a chemical manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment
+ Minimum two (2) years of experience with PSM regulated high hazard operation/manufacturing processes preferred
+ Strong working knowledge & practical experience with life safety systems (LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space, Line Break, etc.) required
+ Good understanding of chemical hazards, including PPE needs & materials compatibility, as well as OSHA PSM Standards required
+ Prior experience with emergency response teams, audit teams, or incident investigation teams required
+ Working knowledge of fire detection/suppression/prevention systems &/or gas detection systems required
+ Proven expertise in health & safety, planning/organizing & managing execution preferred
+ Ability to provide support for a 24/7 operational business required
