Induction Hardening Engineering Technician

Role Purpose

Perform Engineering Technician functions related to induction hardening (IH)

** Key Responsibilities**

• Read prints and understand metallurgical specifications, review metallurgical data and apply to problem solving and run at risk authorization

• Diagnose issues with equipment/tooling and work with technicians, coil shop and maintenance personnel to resolve.

• Knowledge of metallurgical testing techniques.

• Work with subcontractors for manufacture, repair, and technical projects.

• Train and evaluate technical leads for IH operations. - Achieve Level II MPI certification, and function as a trainer and auditor

• Support Engineering in closing gaps to GKN Standards related to IH processes.

• Support Engineering in new rograms, PPAP, and development activities.

• Support Engineering with new and existing machine/IH related processes in the areas of fault logic, debug, run-off, development, and process optimization.

• Support Engineering to define IH and tempering processes, including recommendations for coil design and process parameters in compliance to GKN Standards.

• Support Engineering in developing and maintaining systems to support TS-16949, CQI9, TMC Checklist, and GKN Standards.

• Knowledge of, or ability to learn safety codes related to IH and related processes.

• Have AIAG-CQI-9 requirement (Section 1, item 1.1). Qualificaions include a minimum of 5 years experience and education in IH field.

• Complete ASM Correspondence course “Elements of Metallurgy”, or equivalent.

• Function as a technical leader to IH Senior Manufacturing Technicians, Production Cell Members, Team Leaders, and Metallurgical Lab Techs in support of IH processes.

• Attend Lean Enterprise Leadership Capabilities (LELC) class and commit to continuous improvement following first time right and lean principles.

You should be proficient in:

• CNC Machine Installation
• Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT)
• PPAP Process Experience
