Tasks (Detailed description of the tasks the applicant will be responsible for):
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to all Sara Lee Frozen Bakery (SLFB) safety rules, procedures, and guidelines. Maintain an excellent safety record by consistently following safety protocols, wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and engaging in safe work practices. Promote and support a culture of safety throughout the team.
- Attendance and Housekeeping: Maintain a reliable attendance record. Support a clean and organized work environment by following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) procedures, keeping work areas clean, and ensuring machinery and tools are properly maintained and stored.
- Equipment Assembly/Disassembly: Be proficient in assembling and disassembling all equipment required in your area of responsibility. This includes understanding the layout, mechanical functions, and proper setup procedures for machines and tools in the designated area.
- Power Tool Use: Utilize a variety of power tools such as drills, portaband saws, and grinders to complete repairs, maintenance, and construction of equipment and machinery. Ensure tools are used safely and maintained in good working condition.
- Sprockets and Chains: Remove, replace, and install sprockets, chains, and related components on machinery. Ensure proper alignment and function for efficient operation.
- Electrical Repairs: Repair and replace electrical components such as Cannon plugs, drop cords, and electrical connectors. Troubleshoot electrical issues related to motors, switches, and other components within the plant. Ensure the safe handling of electrical systems and components.
- Conveyor Systems: Repair, replace, and maintain tabletop conveyors, Wenway conveyors, and lacing belts. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to conveyor systems, ensuring minimal downtime in production.
- Troubleshooting: Proactively identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, perform repairs, and resolve issues during your shift to prevent production delays. This includes both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on assigned machinery and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and longevity. This includes cleaning, lubricating, rebuilding parts, and replacing worn or damaged components.
- Cleaning and General Maintenance: Responsible for the cleaning of machinery related to maintenance tasks. Follow all procedures to ensure machinery is cleaned and maintained to meet operational standards.
- Cross-Training: Be open to cross-training in other areas of the plant, learning to operate and maintain different machines or equipment as needed to support the production process.
Requirements (Minimum qualifications and skills required for consideration):
- Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically in an industrial mechanic role, is required. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in mechanical systems, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Welding Skills: Proficient in basic welding techniques, including both Tig and Stick welding, for performing repairs and fabrication of parts and components as necessary.
- Line Programming and Timing: Familiarity with programming and timing equipment, specifically for setting parameters such as depositor settings, conveyor speeds, and other line-specific adjustments. Must be able to adjust operational equipment to maintain optimal production flow.
- Pneumatics and Hydraulics Knowledge: Solid understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and replace components of these systems as part of daily maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Mechanical Repair Skills: Ability to repair and replace mechanical components such as bearings, gearboxes, shafts, and seals. Knowledge of how to properly disassemble, diagnose, repair, and reassemble mechanical systems.
- Basic Shop Tools Knowledge: Competency with shop tools such as milling machines, lathes, and drill presses. Ability to fabricate and modify parts using these tools as required.
- Precision Work Skills: Skills in precision work such as boring sprockets, cutting keyways into shafts, and sealing components to ensure proper fit and function.
- Electrical Testing Equipment Proficiency: Experience using electrical testing equipment such as Multimeters, Amprobe meters, and Meggers for troubleshooting electrical issues within the plant.
- Electrical Troubleshooting: Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical components, including motors, manual switches, disconnects, fuses, and variable frequency drives. Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints and circuit diagrams to diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions.
- AC/DC Circuit Control: Understanding and troubleshooting of AC and DC circuit controls. Ability to assess circuit performance and resolve issues efficiently.
- Conduit Bending and Installation: Skills in bending and running electrical conduit, following code requirements and ensuring proper installation for wiring systems.
- Industrial Control Wiring Knowledge: Expertise in industrial control wiring, troubleshooting, and repairing control systems. Understanding of control logic and the ability to diagnose issues in the wiring and system components.
- Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Experience: Familiarity with programming logic controllers, particularly the Allen Bradley 5/15 and SLC 500 series. Ability to connect and use diagnostic equipment like crash carts, troubleshoot various components, and calibrate machinery as needed.
- Scale and Metal Detector Troubleshooting: Ability to troubleshoot and calibrate scales and metal detectors used in production processes to ensure product quality and safety.
- Jet Printer Repair: Experience troubleshooting and repairing various jet printers throughout the facility, ensuring they remain operational and effectively print necessary product information.
- Communication and Problem Solving: Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional departments within the organization. Capable of discussing issues, providing updates, and coordinating solutions in a team environment. Excellent problem-solving abilities to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
- Overtime and Weekend Availability: Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as necessary to support plant operations and meet production goals.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work in a physically demanding environment, which may require standing, walking, reaching over machinery, and pushing/pulling heavy items. Must also be able to climb stairs and perform tasks in various temperature environments (cold and hot).
- PPE Compliance: Must be willing to wear appropriate PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, hair/beard nets, and rubber boots with safety toes, all of which will be provided by SLFB.
- Work Schedule: Must be able to work 12-hour shifts, which may include standing, walking, reaching, and performing tasks that require physical endurance. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.
