Job Description
As a Phlebotomist I, you will play an essential role in performing various duties including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Your main function will involve collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures while providing excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
- Update patient information and decontaminate equipment.
- Clearly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections such as urine or fecal, as required.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understand and execute physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure accurate labeling.
- Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
- Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 0-2 years of experience.
- Customer service skills.
- Flexibility in handling various tasks.
The position is based in a doctor's office, specifically in a fairly small patient service center with a designated lab area. The Phlebotomist will conduct around 15-35 draws a day, depending on the day, primarily working with adults and geriatric patients aged 18-90. The role requires standing for most of the shift and working independently. Initial training consists of a 3-day virtual session in Chesapeake, followed by additional onsite training.

This is a Contract position based out of Elizabeth City, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
