Associate Director of Work Engagement
Warren Wilson College is seeking a dynamic and student-centered professional to serve as our Associate Director of Work Engagement. This pivotal role supports a high-impact student employment experience that prepares students for meaningful lives and careers after graduation. As part of our unique Work Program, the Associate Director will lead efforts to create a more intentional and scaffolded professional development pathway for student workers, while equipping supervisors with the tools and training they need to be effective mentors.
In this role, you'll design and implement leadership development frameworks, coordinate ongoing training for student crew leaders, and oversee the annual Leadership Symposium. You'll collaborate closely with the Careers and Internships Office to integrate career-connected learning opportunities into the Work Program, and develop badging and credentialing systems that recognize student growth and achievement.
You'll also play a key role in onboarding and training both students and supervisors, developing orientation materials, and analyzing evaluation data to improve performance and support. Your work will ensure alignment between the Work Program and the College's career readiness outcomes, helping students build transferable skills and confidence.
Additionally, you'll manage the Work Program's conduct and accountability processes, serve on the Connect Team to support holistic student development, and supervise student workers in the Work Program Office. Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, student affairs, human resources, or related field.
- Three years of experience in student development, human resources, or training and development.
- Experience designing and facilitating training, workshops, or leadership development programs.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with people from all backgrounds and perspectives.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive campus fleet vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in higher education, counseling, human resources, or a related field.
- Experience supervising student or professional staff.
- Familiarity with federal student employment regulations and conduct procedures.
- Experience with training evaluation and assessment.
- Experience with platforms such as Advocate, GivePulse, UKG Ready, or Jenzabar.
Key Responsibilities:
Professional Development & Leadership — 40%
- Designs and implements scaffolded leadership development frameworks for student workers and crews.
- Plans and oversees the annual Leadership Symposium for student crew leaders.
- Coordinates continued leadership training for student crew leaders throughout the academic year.
- Identifies student professional development needs through evaluation data, supervisor feedback, and collaboration with stakeholders.
- Develops and facilitates professional development trainings that align with career readiness competencies
- Partners with the Careers and Internships Office to develop and promote career-connected opportunities and initiatives within the Work Program.
- Oversees badging and credentialing systems for student workers.
- Assists in the development and implementation of on-campus, full-time internship opportunities that build on Work Program experiences.
Training, Onboarding & Evaluation — 30%
- Designs and delivers onboarding and training materials for new student workers and crew leaders.
- Develops and facilitates Work Program-specific orientation sessions in collaboration with New Student Orientation.
- Oversees onboarding and ongoing training for new Work Program supervisors.
- Coordinates the collection and distribution of student and supervisor evaluations each semester.
- Directs the Work Program's assessment efforts, maintaining Work Program statistics and collaborating with the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment and Planning.
- Analyzes evaluation data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement in student performance and supervisory practices.
- Communicates performance concerns or notable achievements from supervisor evaluations to Human Resources and Work Program leadership for follow-up or recognition.
Conduct & Accountability — 20%
- Maintains and facilitates the Work Program Conduct Procedure.
- Tracks and manages student conduct cases within the Work Program using the Advocate system.
- Serves as the Work Program representative on the Connect Team, contributing to holistic support and accountability processes for students.
- Coordinates with other campus offices (e.g., Student Life, Human Resources) to address conduct issues and develop support or intervention plans.
Supervision & Operations — 10%
- Supervises students employed on the Work Program Office Crew.
- Provides mentorship, task delegation, and professional development for student crew members.
- Supports day-to-day Work Program Office operations as needed, in collaboration with other CELC team members.
- Participates in CELC-wide events and contributes to office-wide planning and team development.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Work or CELC leadership.
