Warehouse Production Associate at Fun Ecom Co | Great People, Consistent Hours & Growth

JLS Trading Co
Charlotte, NC

--Is this a real job ad?--

Yup! Amazingly enough, we actually paid money to post this on a bunch of different job sites. And it’s not even a pyramid scheme! Plus, get this: the owner just started paying our 70ish employees with money instead of Pizza Hut coupons - we’re big time, people.

Our careers page is actually worth checking out to learn more about how insane we are (sidenote: it won a web design award in 1993 - we’re a pretty big deal):

And check out our reviews on Google , Glassdoor , or Indeed to see that it’s not just the founder’s mother who says we’re cool.

--What do you guys do?--

We sell a lot of different things but our primary focus now is developing/engineering from scratch very cool products in a variety of niches.

A small sampling:

- Bad Parking Cards ()

- Steak Weights ()

- Beverage Barricades ()

Our business is growing rapidly every year, and it’s our intention to continue that for as long as possible, which means we need good people to help us keep up with the growth.

--What are your company’s values?--

See here:

Yes, those are legitimately our values. The careers page is definitely worth checking out - it’s not just normal corporate BS. We promise you’ll learn a lot about us.

--So, what will I actually be doing?--

Super short version:

You will be working on a small manufacturing line to process pieces into sellable units to ship out. We have hundreds of different products, but we usually do small batches, so you’re working on a different thing multiple times per day usually.

The general workflow consists of:

  • Choosing a batch and bringing to your manufacturing line
  • Reading the instructions and ensuring you’re working on the correct pieces
  • Working by yourself or with a small team to complete the batch as efficiently as possible
  • Preparing, assembling, sealing and packing units into boxes
  • Moving the palletized boxes into the completed queue
  • Finishing and closing the batch on the computer
  • Rinse and repeat

--What’s the salary/wage range?--

We start employees at $16 per hour and regularly review performance for consistency, reliability, and output. We believe in paying people for their results and effort, so raises and cross-training opportunities are earned based on merit and performance, not simply time in the role.

Pay periods are weekly which means you'll get paid every Friday!

--Do I need a college degree?--

No, but we do want to see a high school diploma or GED.

--What are the hours like?--

We operate on a consistent full-time schedule to keep production running smoothly:

  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday
  • 8 hour workdays
  • All shifts take place between 8:00AM and 6:00PM
    • This extended operating window allows for reasonable flexibility in start and end times while maintaining a consistent daily schedule.

Based on business needs, overtime may be required. When scheduled, additional hours are added evenly across the workweek (example: a 45-hour week would be 9-hour days). Overtime is paid at 1.5× your hourly rate.

--Are there benefits?--

Yes, we offer:

  • 401k
  • Health insurance
  • Paid holidays
  • PTO

--What is the environment like?--

We operate out of a 30,000 sq. ft. warehouse that is not heated or cooled. Management provides fans during the summer and heated sweatshirts during winter, for what it’s worth, but if you’re not comfortable working in a non-climate controlled warehouse, this is probably not the job for you.

--Do I have to lift heavy things?--

Yes but not all the time. We do have multiple small-in-stature folks working here, but on occasion, we’re gonna ask you to move/lift heavy boxes and move heavy pallets via pallet jack.

--Are there free snacks and drinks?--

Yeah buddy!

--Do I need manufacturing experience?--

No you don’t. We will train you, but you’re going to be expected to pick things up quickly and work very hard once you know the processes.

--What traits do I need to succeed?-

  1. Be smart as-hell. You will experience a lot of pain if you can’t keep up intellectually. It’s not like we’re geniuses or anything, but we definitely don’t have time to be arguing with not-so-smart people.
  2. Be very hard working. If you don’t enjoy hard work and high levels of production, we are probably not the place for you.
  3. Be very coachable. If you don't like getting blunt, honest feedback (we're always nice about it FWIW) and improving, we probably aren't a fit for each other.
  4. Willingness to do whatever. We're still more or less a startup, so everyone has to wear multiple hats. Sometimes everyone has to chip in to help get orders shipped out, you know?
  5. Have a fun attitude. We like people with a great sense of attitude and overall happy outlook on life.

--What do I need to do to apply?--

Please submit your information on the following page to apply:

We promise to respond within 5-10 business days even if our answer is No.

There will be multiple steps in this process, FYI, including a long written application, interviews with potentially a few different people, and paid work test(s). Hiring the right people is really hard and very expensive if we do it poorly, so we have to front-load the process. I'm sorry about that and thank you for sticking with us.

Once you’re in our pipeline though, I would anticipate giving you a final answer within a few weeks, depending on how it goes. We definitely don’t want to string you along, and as long as you do what we ask, we promise to tell you “yes” or “no”, and to not just ghost you (like everybody I match with on Tinder).

Thank you for your time and interest, and I hope we can work together soon!
