About This Role
The primary responsibility of the position is the engineering development of commercial water chilling systems. The role includes leading the integration of mechanical system designs into chiller and split system new product development programs. In this capacity, the principal engineer will be responsible for leading a team to develop solutions that best meet the local/global market needs by integrating multiple technologies in the product. To do this, the principal engineer must have an expert understanding of the thermodynamics of the chiller system, chiller modeling, tube‑in‑shell heat transfer, pressure vessel design, refrigerant system performance analysis and compression application. The principal engineer will also be responsible for the mentoring of other early career engineering personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Thermodynamic based modeling and optimization of chiller system design, fluid filtration and pumping
- Work cross‑functionally with service and operations teams to effectively launch designs into production
- Develop chiller system architecture that meets or exceeds the product development requirements
- Confirm product design performance, capability and reliability in the engineering product test laboratories
- Collaborate with the product marketing teams locally to develop product requirements and ensure that the product meets their needs when launched
- Prepare phased gate/process materials and present to senior leadership on a regular basis
- Execute tests for systems, sub‑systems, and components. Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives.
- Follow all appropriate design, safety, and qualification standards in development programs.
- Work toward commonality and optimization of product & components to reduce design errors and escapes.
- Produce parts, specifications, designs, or sketches for machines, components, systems or work orders / purchase requests
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 10+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience
- 7+ years of HVAC industry experience
- 4+ years of Project leadership experience
- 4+ years of experience in a new product development, service and/or aftermarket space
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)
- Experience with conducting Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA’s)
- Laboratory Testing and Data Analysis experience
- Strong communication skills, primarily in English
- Leadership, mentoring and teamwork skills

Pay Range
The annual salary for this position is $146,750–$205,250. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate.
