Summary
About Our Opportunity The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Business Services Administrator within the Planning and Urban Design Department. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of complex administrative and/or technical program assistance work to support departmental programs and activities. This position will also provide primary departmental assistance of budget management using the City's software programs. This position plays a key role in managing important internal and external relationships and is expected to actively contribute ideas and project management for special projects.
- What you'll be doing:
- Utilizes City software for entering contracts, processing invoices and Purchase cards, and processing payroll.
- Performs a variety of tasks to assist management and the overall department in day-to-day administrative functions of the department.
- Processes documentation pertaining to budget, personnel, or general financial management: assists with budget preparation and process improvement; provides budgetary input and assists in forecasting revenue/expenditures; analyzes data and generates budget presentations and reports for executive level staff to assist with strategic planning and process improvement for department or assigned division; conducts additional research as needed; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget; reconciles payable records with Finance Department records; maintains current balances for accounts; and maintains departmental petty cash funds.
- May serve as an administrative point of contact and public meeting technical support for City Boards and Commissions as required.
- Processes a variety of documentation associated with department operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures; receives, reviews, records, types, and/or distributes documentation; manages database, such as updating and linking information; logs, tracks, or maintains records regarding department activities; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; files, maintains, and stores hardcopy records; and retains or destroys documentation in accordance with record retention rules, regulations, laws, and ordinances.
- Performs data entry functions by keying data into computer system; enters payroll; enters, retrieves, reviews, or modifies data in computer database; scans documents into computer; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; indexes documents; and develops databases and computerized reports.

Education requirements:- Associate degree in Accounting, Communications, Business, or a related field required; supplemented by five years of experience in area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Other things to know: - Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (37.5 hours per week). Flexible/Hybrid schedules may be available.- Salary Range: $46,593.56 to $51,252.92 per year. Starting rate commensurate with experience.

Knowledge:
