Project Controls Scheduler
Role summary / purpose
This role is an approximately 24-month assignment supporting multiple energy storage and solar construction project teams. The position provides day-to-day analysis and evaluation of data associated with portfolios, programs and projects, serving as an expert practitioner in project controls (cost, contract, WBS, schedule, resource, etc.). The role performs complex aspects of individual project estimating, scheduling, change documentation and cost control while communicating program or portfolio status. Site visits which include field observations of project progress, interaction with vendor project staff, change order impact evaluations, and support of regular project status updates will be required.
Key responsibilities
- Incorporate developmental and implementation details into the schedule once implementation contracts are awarded
- Integrate with other site work activities that either impact or are impacted by the new project, and define implementation baseline dates
- Maintain and update all owner implementation work, including development and maintenance of the site integrated schedule
- Obtain updates from vendor schedule submittals, manual updates provided by on-site/responsible vendor representatives, or direct communication with assigned project management
- Develop and generate periodic project controls communications and routine analytics
- Perform data collection, verification, validation and analysis to support project controls communications
- Distribute and archive project controls reports as appropriate
- Provide presentation quality reports and communications to project and management teams
- Review and analysis of project schedules in Primavera (P6), including basis and qualifications
- Define and analyze the project schedule baseline in P6
- Development of a site integrated schedule in P6, including other site work activities
- Work with contract vendors to gather and verify updated schedules
- Support development of recovery plans and project changes as necessary
- Review Project Change Requests for impact to schedule
- Support project scheduling required for funding submittals
- Support project reporting and schedule adherence reporting
- Perform schedule variance analysis
Requirements - education & experience
- Graduation from a four-year college or university in business, finance, project management, engineering, technical, or equivalent field
- Minimum of 9 years of project controls experience
- Minimum of 11 years of project controls experience in lieu of a degree
- Demonstrated expertise in using Primavera (P6)
- On-site field experience observing project progress and tracking performance via schedule updates
- Subject Matter Expertise in field scheduling for large construction projects
Required skills
- Advanced analytical and technical project controls skills
- Expert level understanding of Project Controls methodologies and discipline
- Advanced levels of application, analysis and evaluation of data
- Proficiency with Primavera (P6)
- Advanced to expert level experience in Excel
- Ability to work with large data files
- Ability to pick up and use unfamiliar software
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Collaborative team member
Nice-to-have / preferred skills
- Masters degree in business, finance, project management, or equivalent
- Experience tracking project resources and quantities using Primavera or other software
- PMI or AACE certification (PMP, CAPM, PMI-SP, AACE-CCC, AACE-PSP, AACE-CEP, AACE-EVP or equivalent)
- Demonstrated expertise in MS Project, MS Office Suite, Business Objects, Prolog, Passport, Visio, Access, Powerplant, Maximo or EAM, PeopleSoft, and schedule analysis software such as Deltek Acumen
- Prior utility or energy industry experience
- Experience evaluating vendor change orders and time impacts
- Ability to lead complex assignments
- Experience working in a PMO environment or on a project controls team
- Exposure to energy-related projects
Employment details - type, location, hours
Location: Charlotte, NC with multiple sites across the Carolinas service area
Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with travel to sites in North and South Carolina 3 days per week
Work Environment: Office/hybrid with site visits. No physical labor required. Personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, safety shoes) required during site visits only. Personal vehicle required for travel to project sites.
Per Diem: Approved if eligible
Assignment Duration: Approximately 24 months
