Organization Description: Vecinos is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that provides clinic and mobile services, including integrated primary care, mental health care, health education, and case management. All services are provided to low-income, uninsured, and underinsured community members. We offer a supportive, team-oriented work environment. This role operates in a non-traditional setting with limited resources, and schedules and hours may vary throughout the year.
Purpose: The Clinic Specialist supports front desk operations, scheduling, and patient access across Vecinos clinic sites. This role ensures consistent evening clinic coverage, maintains provider schedules, and improves patient communication and access to care. It also supports interpretation and transportation needs, with clinical and lab duties only as needed to maintain clinic operations.
Primary Responsibilities:- Front Desk Operations: Provide receptionist coverage at the Cullowhee night clinic. Support front desk operations at the Franklin in the morning and afternoons. Assist with patient check in and check out, phone calls, and general clinic flow
- Scheduling and Coordination: Manage provider schedules for Cullowhee and Mobile Clinics. Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments. Monitor and manage scheduling tasks.
- Patient Support Services: Communicate with patients regarding appointments and follow ups. Assist with coordination of care between clinic locations and external services.
- Interpretation and Transportation: Provide interpretation services during clinic visits and specialist appointments as needed. Assist with coordinating and providing patient transportation when required.
- Mobile Clinic Support: Assist with scheduling and administrative coordination for Mobile Clinic services.
- Additional Support: Support coverage of Medical Assistant duties or lab support as needed to maintain clinic operations
Required Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish and English required the ability to accurately interpret medical terminology in both languages.
- Medical Terminology: Demonstrated working knowledge of medical terms, procedures, diagnoses and treatments in both languages.
- Previous experience or training in medical interpretation or a healthcare environment.
- Strong verbal and listening skills to ensure clear, accurate communication.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced healthcare setting
- Adaptability: Flexible and able to adjust quickly to diverse medical situations and work environments.
- Professionalism: Maintains neutrality, emotional composure, and ethical standards.
- Legal and Ethical Knowledge: Understanding of patient confidentiality laws (HIPAA) and ethical standards in medical interpretation, including patient rights and the importance of neutrality.
- Cultural Competency: Understanding of cultural nuances and the ability to convey culturally appropriate messages in healthcare settings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to remain at the front desk station for extended periods
- Some light cleaning and sanitizing responsibilities required
- Relevant experience: 1-2 years in front desk,s scheduling, medical assistant or office coordination role
- Experience working in a healthcare or clinic setting preferred
- Certified Medical Interpreter through a recognized body such as NBCMI or CCHI preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Prior experience in medical interpreting in clinical or healthcare settings preferred
- Experience with Electronic Health Records EHR and scheduling systems preferred
- Ability to handle high pressure situations and work in a fast paced environment
