Advanced CNC Precision Machining Specialist

Ingersoll Rand
Mocksville, NC

Make life better — one micron at a time

Picture your second shift starting at 3pm. You review a print, run your hand over a freshly machined surface, and confirm with your mic that you’re holding 0.0002 in tolerances. You adjust offsets, update a status sheet, route the part to the next operation, and sync with your Team Lead. Later, you step over to support die-cast operations — managing molten aluminum, maintaining furnace temps, and ensuring machines never wait for metal. That’s a day on our team.

Location

Mocksville, North Carolina

Shift

2nd Shift, Monday–Friday (3:00pm–11:00pm); overtime and weekends as needed

What you’ll do (CNC and machining)

  • Translate blueprints, sketches, drawings, and job instruction sheets into precise setups, dimensions, and tolerances for finished work-pieces.
  • Select and use cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials across mills, lathes, grinders, machining centers, drill presses, and drill machines.
  • Enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit CNC control programs and parameters.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor equipment; identify out-of-tolerance conditions and correct via control/media adjustments.
  • Measure with depth gages, bore gages, height gages, feeler gages, micrometers, and calipers; validate parts against specifications.
  • Rework components that do not initially meet spec to achieve conformance.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and production staff to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues.
  • Follow ISO procedures and safety rules; wear required PPE and perform hoist inspections.
  • Route completed parts according to the routing sequence and update part locations via computer data entry.
  • Maintain accurate documentation: work order cover sheets, daily production sheets, status logs, and quality records.
  • Engage in regular communication with peers and Team Leads to sustain productivity and problem-solve in real time.
  • Hold tight tolerances down to 0.0002 in with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Drive 5S standards for organization and housekeeping in your work area.
  • Contribute ideas for cell layout, process efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in monthly departmental meetings and quarterly town halls.

What you’ll do (die-casting and furnace support)

Operate, inspect, and clean furnace; set up die-cast machines as relief for the primary Furnace Tender.

  • Operate furnaces to melt aluminum ingots or scrap for die casting.
  • Regulate furnace temperatures; charge furnaces per instruction with ingots and scrap.
  • Deliver molten metal in proper amounts/proportions to die-cast machines to prevent interruptions; oversee distribution to maintain central melt temperature on schedule.
  • Assist with furnace cool-down; inspect furnace lining for cracks/defects and evaluate distribution ladles; assist with repairs as instructed.
  • Perform material handling as needed; safely fill ladles, drive lift trucks, and pour metal into furnaces for machine setup.
  • Set up die-casting cell equipment as needed: ladle, auto-spray, robotic systems, and trim press; remove/replace die castings and adjust machines.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or machining training/certification preferred.
  • Approximately 2 years of machining experience preferred.
  • Read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, blueprints, memos, and procedures.
