**About the Role**
We are seeking a **Data Scientist (AI/ML focus)** to support the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of the Chief Information Officer (HUD OCIO). The Data Scientist will analyze, model, and simulate data supporting HUD AI/ML proofs of concept and pilots. Additionally, the Data Scientist will develop predictive models, simulations, and decision-theory frameworks to enhance system functionality, operational efficiency, and mission alignment.
This is a fully remote position. Candidates must reside in the United States.
**Responsibilities**
+ Develop statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and simulations using Python.
+ Analyze HUD datasets, implement data preprocessing, and assess data quality for AI workflows.
+ Collaborate with HCD/UX and front-end teams to ensure models are operationalized effectively.
+ Evaluate model performance, validate results, and iterate for improvement.
+ Support AI governance by documenting models, decisions, assumptions, and ethical safeguards.
+ Maintain version-controlled code and reproducible workflows for HUD audit and compliance.
Requirements
**Required Experience and Skills**
+ 5+ years of experience in data science, statistical modeling, or AI/ML projects.
+ Experience developing predictive models, simulations, and decision-support tools.
+ Familiarity with federal datasets and AI governance requirements preferred.
+ Strong Data processing, cleaning, transformation, and engineering capabilities.
+ Federal-scale datasets, such as SQL, NoSQL, Spark, Kafka, or cloud-native pipelines.
+ Previous experience supporting HUD OCIO preferred.
+ Ability to pass required Federal background screening and obtain and maintain both government clearance and customer approval.
+ Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
**Technical Skills**
+ Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch)
+ Statistical modeling, simulation, and decision theory
+ Data visualization: Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly
+ Version control: Git/GitHub/GitLab
+ Experience with AI/ML lifecycle and reproducible workflows

+ Master's degree in Data Science, AI, or related field (preferred)
+ Python, machine learning, or data science certifications preferred
**Physical Requirements**
+ Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
