About Oval Park Capital
Oval Park Capital is an early-stage venture capital firm on a mission to back breakthrough physical and industrial technology startups that solve the world’s most complex and costly problems.
Based in Raleigh, NC, and investing primarily in the Southeastern U.S. and other overlooked ecosystems, we pride ourselves on a contrarian investment strategy – looking beyond Silicon Valley to find value in sectors and regions underserved by mainstream VC. Our focus spans Advanced Manufacturing, Advanced Materials, AI Infrastructure & Compute, Built Environment, Climate & Environment, Defense & National Security, Energy & Power, Food & Agriculture, and other mission-critical solutions. We actively partner with visionary founders developing disruptive, defensible technologies, we find value where others don’t see it, and we pursue opportunities without regard for who else is on the cap table.
Founded in 2018, Oval Park Capital is a leading emerging VC fund manager with strong momentum in capital formation, capital deployment, and portfolio value growth. To date, we’ve raised two committed funds and 10+ co-investment vehicles, we’ve invested $80mm+ across 20 portfolio companies, and we’ve achieved strong early performance (including multiple successful exits). Our contrarian approach has enabled us to achieve entry valuations well below industry medians (translating to higher ownership stakes) without sacrificing the potential for outsized investment return multiples that ultimately drive outsized fund returns.
Most importantly, we take an “early and active” role with our startups: From day one, we roll up our sleeves to help founders accelerate growth, navigate challenges, and build industry-leading businesses. Oval Park operates with a flat hierarchy and lean team of passionate investors and operators, and we’re now looking to add an Investment Analyst to our team to help drive our next phase of growth as we raise and deploy our next committed venture fund.
Investment Analyst Role
This Investment Analyst position is a Partner-track role on our investment team, offering an exceptional opportunity to launch your investing career at a dynamic, growing firm. You will work directly with our Managing Partner and collaborate closely with our Senior Associates and Operating Partners. From day one, you’ll be involved in every aspect of the venture investment process – from screening and evaluating new deals, to supporting investment execution, to actively helping our portfolio companies navigate growth challenges. Your perspective will be heard in investment discussions, and you’ll receive direct, hands-on mentorship that simply isn’t available at larger firms.
This is not a rotational program or a stepping stone to business school. We hire Analysts with the expectation that they will grow into Associates, Principals, and eventually Partners at Oval Park. If you are looking for a two-year stint to pad your resume before applying to MBA programs, this role is not for you. If you are looking to build your entire investing career at a firm where the work matters and your contributions compound, we want to talk to you.
You will have unparalleled learning and growth opportunities – honing your investor skill set, building deep domain expertise in “hard tech” sectors, and earning increasing responsibility as you demonstrate impact. You’ll see how a venture firm is built and operated from the inside, gain exposure to founders and CEOs working on the frontier of physical innovation, and build a foundation for a long-term career in venture capital.
Ideal Background
We are seeking candidates with 1–2 years of professional experience in investment banking, with a clear preference for backgrounds adjacent to our investment focus. You might be coming from:
- A hardtech, industrials, or energy coverage group at a bulge-bracket bank or specialist boutique (e.g., advanced manufacturing, defense, aerospace, climate, materials, semiconductors, automation)
- A specialist M&A advisor focused on energy transition, climate tech, advanced materials, or industrial technology
- A TMT or technology coverage group with strong exposure to venture-backed companies – we are open to candidates with this background who can articulate a thoughtful reason for wanting to focus on physical and industrial technology
- An in-house corporate development team at an industrial technology, energy, or advanced manufacturing company
Candidates with strong personal or professional ties to North Carolina and the Southeast are especially encouraged to apply – we are committed to building our firm with people who want to put down roots in this region.
Key Responsibilities
As Investment Analyst, you will be a key contributor across our investment process, with responsibilities scaling as you build experience and demonstrate ownership. Key responsibilities include:
- Deal Screening & Pipeline Support: Help build and maintain our active deal pipeline. Conduct initial screening of inbound opportunities, prepare structured assessments of new prospects, and help our Senior Associates and Managing Partner prioritize where to invest deeper diligence time. Maintain rigorous CRM hygiene and ensure no opportunity falls through the cracks.
- Due Diligence Support: Take ownership of discrete diligence workstreams in support of active investment processes. Build financial models and operating projections, construct cap table waterfalls, conduct market sizing and competitive landscape research, evaluate technology and IP positioning, and execute customer and reference call programs. Synthesize findings clearly and present conclusions to the team.
- Investment Memos & Materials: Contribute substantively to our investment memos and committee materials. Draft sections covering market analysis, financial projections, competitive positioning, and risk assessment. Build the supporting analyses and exhibits that ground our investment recommendations.
- Portfolio Engagement & Support: Support our Senior Associates and Managing Partner on portfolio company engagement. Help analyze portfolio company KPIs and financial performance, prepare materials for board meetings, and contribute to portfolio company support projects (financial model refreshes, go-to-market analyses, recruiting pipeline development, follow-on financing preparation). You will get direct exposure to founders and to the operating realities of building industrial technology businesses.
- Market Research & Thesis Development: Develop and maintain expertise in our focus sectors (advanced manufacturing, AI/ML infrastructure, climate tech, robotics, healthcare data, etc.). Conduct sector deep-dives, track emerging technologies, identify thematic investment opportunities, and contribute to thought leadership content that strengthens our brand.
- Fundraising & LP Support: Help prepare materials for current and prospective Limited Partners, including data room maintenance, fund performance reporting, and LP update preparation. Support firm-level capital formation activities as we scale through Fund II and prepare for Fund III.
- Internal Operations & Firm Building: Because we are a small firm, every team member contributes to making Oval Park operate effectively. The Investment Analyst will help refine internal processes (CRM/deal tracking, research databases, reporting workflows), assist with marketing and content efforts, and represent the firm at conferences and community events. There is no task too small, and your fingerprints will be on every part of how we operate.
